I have been to a lot of concerts.
But seeing Mac at the House of Blues felt different.
It felt genuine. Special. Intimate. The music made the room feel smaller.
What originally started as a birthday gift for my best friend, became an unforgettable experience.
We discovered Mac around COVID, during a time when music had to travel differently. No summer car rides, windows down, blasting the aux. No real outside rotation.
At the show, there were definitely people who seemed like they were there for the look. Some people felt like random concert-goers, just out for the night, not fully locked into what was happening. But the die-hard fans were there too. You could feel them. And Mac gave us exactly what we came for. We were listening, headsprung, nodding and singing along. It was almost like he stepped off the artwork and onto the stage.. We even stayed for the encore.
Some artists sound bigger on the album than they do in person. Some artists need the studio to hold the feeling together. But Mac’s performance made the records feel even more honest. It confirmed the musicianship was real, not an aesthetic.
Mac’s music carries that kind of quiet power.
It doesnt try to erase your problems. It gives your thoughts a rhythm. It gives your scars a little sunlight. It gives you a reason to nod your head even when life feels heavy.
And sometimes, that's enough.
Sometimes the best music is not the music that saves you.
Sometimes it's the music that sits beside you, and reminds you that even your worries can move with a little groove.
