My Take

If you asked most people to name someone who changed their city, they would probably point to a politician, celebrity, athlete, or business leader.

Which made me wonder:

How many of the people shaping our communities will never make it into the history books?

And how many of us are benefiting from their work without ever knowing their names?

One of those names is Deloyd Parker.

For decades, Parker has dedicated himself to strengthening the people and institutions that hold communities together.

Through S.H.A.P.E. Community Center, that work has taken many forms: youth enrichment, after-school programs, summer care, elder wellness, food security, cultural celebrations, civil rights education, community organizing, and family-centered support.

Some people chase recognition. Others build foundations beneath people who may never know their names. That kind of impact is quiet, but it echoes across generations.

Deloyd Parker is one of those people.
